I am a passionate Vermont photographer, painter, dad, husband, snowboarder, mountain biker, and runner, oh, and a full time product manager. Michael McKennedy - March 2020
My passion for photography began in Lowell, Massachusettes in 1985 when my high school photography teacher let me borrow her personal Pentax K-1000 for a few days (thanks Ms. O'hare!). I fell in love with the concept of the frame being a canvas on which I could paint with light. Evenutually I saved up enough money and bought my own.
Years later, while living in Hyannis, Ma. the camera was stolen, along with ten rolls of undeveloped film and I took and extended break from photography (read: couldn't afford a new camera).
Later my passion resurfaced and I bought another K-1000. Shortly after that I moved to Vermont where my love for photography blossomed into a full blown addiction. Since then I have put down the K-1000 and made the transformation to digital.
My work has been published in Elle Magazine, tourist brochures, and in the first edition of the Capture My Vermont hard cover book, as well as in the 2013 University of Vermont publication. It has also been used as CD cover art, on many websites, and has been purchased for wedding, holiday, and birthday gifts.
I began painting in 2015 when I attended a paint-n-sip with co-workers. I had no idea that years later I would have produced and sold paintings. My medium up to this point has been acrylic on canvas. I don't really know where the shapes and colors in my work comes from. Some of my paintings are planned, and go on for months. Others begin as one thing and over the course of months, probably years morph into something else. It's fun. I enjoy it.
